FRESH START pt2

God will give our church a fresh start, if we cooperate.

(1 Corinthians 12:12-30) For as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body – so also is Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body – whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free – and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. So the body is not one part but many. If the foot should say, “Because I’m not a hand, I don’t belong to the body” in spite of this it still belongs to the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I’m not an eye, I don’t belong to the body,” in spite of this it still belongs to the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But now God has placed the parts, each one of them, in the body just as He wanted. And if they were all the same part, where would the body be? Now there are many parts, yet one body.

1. We Are Part of Christ’s Church

(12-13) For as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body – so also is Christ. For we were ALL baptized by ONE Spirit into ONE body… and we were all made to drink of ONE Spirit.

A. We don’t appreciate how real the Holy Spirit is.

B. The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity.

C. Once the Holy Spirit moves into you, He stays in you.

D. The church is made up of folks who have the Holy Spirit.

2. Our Church Can’t Function Without You

A. We have rarely seen our church function the way God intends.

B. Rarely are all the parts functioning the way God intends.

(18) God has placed the parts, each one of them, in the body just as He wanted.

3. We Can’t Survive Without Our Church

A. We grossly undervalue the importance of the church in our lives.

B. Where are the people who stand beside us when we go through life’s difficulties?
