The Appearances: “Commission”

Before Jesus left, He gave each of us a job.

The Appearances: “COMMISSION”

Before Jesus left, He gave each of us a job.

(Matthew 28:16-20) The 11 disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them. When they saw Him, they worshiped, but some doubted (The Greek word here would be better translated “hesitated”. Their brains are just having a hard time keeping up with everything.) Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age”

To Commission: The act of committing or entrusting a person, or group, with supervisory power or authority. Authority granted for a particular action or function.

1. Live Intentionally
(19) Go therefore, and make disciples…
   A. Emphasis is on “making disciples”, no on “going”
   B. To live our normal lives, intentionally talking to people about Jesus.

2. Lead Comprehensibly
   A. The job Jesus has given us is to “make disciples.”
   B. We can only do that by taking the lead.
(19-20) Make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you.

“teaching them to observe EVERYTHING I have commanded you.”
   C. We teach others to observe “everything” He has given us.
   D. The way we do that is by “living” it.

If a little of Jesus is good,
Then a lot of Jesus is better,
And ALL of Jesus is best.

3. Lean Habitually
(20) Remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’

Remember, because you are so prone to forgetting…
Remember, because you are going to need this…
Remember, because you are now My siblings…
Remember, because life will get very dark…
Remember, because you are so very weak…
Remember, because I enjoy holding you up…
Remember, because you won’t be able to see Me.
REMEMBER, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS…
