The Lord Is My ROCK

Few metaphors in Scripture tell us more about God.

(Psalm 18:2) The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my mountain where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation.

1. My PROTECTION Rock

A. God delivers us from the troubles we face.

(Psalm 91:1-2) The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” He Himself will DELIVER you from the hunter’s net, from the destructive plague.

B. God is our strong and secure hiding place.

(Ps 32:7) You [God] are my hiding place; You protect me from trouble. You surround me with joyful shouts of deliverance. (Ps 17:8) Guard me as the apple of Your eye; hide me in the shadow of Your wings.

(Ps 27:5) He will conceal me in His shelter in the day of adversity; He will hide me under the cover of His tent.

(Ps 91:4) He will cover you with His feathers; you will take refuge under His wings.

2. My TRADITION Rock

A. The Lord is my Mountain.

B. Mountains don’t change.

C. The Lord never changes.

(Hebrews 13:8) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

D. Scripture never changes.

(Luke 16:17) “It is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter in the law to drop out.”

E. Our tradition is built on Scripture.

3. My FOUNDATION Rock

A. The Rock upon which we build our lives.

(1 Corinthians 3:11) No one can lay any other foundation than what has been laid – that is, Jesus Christ.

(Matthew 7:24) “Everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on the ROCK. The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because it foundation was on the ROCK.”

B. Not only “hear” his words, but ACT on them.
