Rooted in Example

12-02-2018 • Dr. Steve Washburn

We should strive to be an example of what it means to be a Christ follower.

ROOTED IN EXAMPLE

(Colossians 4:12-13) Epaphras, who is one of you, a slave of Christ Jesus, greets you. He is always contending for you in his prayers, so that you can stand mature and fully assured in everything God wills. For I testify about him that he works hard for you, for those in Laodicea, and for those in Hierapolis.

We should strive to be an example of what it means to be a Christ follower.

1. An Example As a FOLLOWER

(4:12) Epaphras, who is one of YOU…

A. Our best examples are other folks like us.
B. We’ll be the best example to other folks like us.

2. An Example As a SERVER

(4:12) Epaphras, who is one of you, a SLAVE of Christ Jesus…
(4:7) Tychicus, a loved brother, a faithful SERVANT and a fellow SLAVE in the Lord…

A. Follow the examples of these men.
B. Become slaves to Christ.
C. Show others how to become slaves to Christ.

3. An Example As an INTERCESSOR

(4:12) [Epaphras] is always CONTENDING FOR YOU IN HIS PRAYERS, so that you can stand mature and fully assured in everything God wills.

A. Pick someone here in church and start praying for them.
B. That person for whom we pray is going to be changed.
C. We are going to grow confident as intercessors.
D. We will become examples as sincere intercessors.

4. An Example As a WORKER

(13) For I testify about him that HE WORKS HARD FOR YOU…

A. Work hard for our church.
B. Work hard TOGETHER for our church.

If we will roll up our sleeves and all work together,
we’ll accomplish great things for the Lord.
