Rooted in the Truth

07-22-2018 • Dr. Steve Washburn

We can never forget that our Christian convictions are rooted in truth.

“Rooted”

ROOTED IN TRUTH

We can never forget that our Christian convictions are rooted in truth.

(Colossians 1:1-8) Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by God’s will, and Timothy our brother: To the saints and faithful brothers in Christ in Colossae. Grace to you and peace from God our Father. We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints because of the hope reserved for you in heaven. You have already heard about this hope in the message of truth, the gospel that has come to you. It is bearing fruit and growing all over the world, just as it has among you since the day you heard it and recognized God’s grace in the truth. You learned this from Epaphras, our much loved fellow slave. He is a faithful minister of the Messiah on your behalf, and he has told us about your love in the Spirit.

  1. HOPE That’s Rooted in Truth

(5-6) because of the hope reserved for you in heaven. You have already heard about this hope in the message of truth, the gospel that has come to you.

  1. Embracing “authentic” truth leads to hope.
  2. Embracing “counterfeit” truth leads to despair.

  1. FAITH That’s Rooted in Truth

  1. Many put their faith in narcissism.
  2. Many put their faith in hedonism.
  3. Many put their faith in humanism.
  4. Many put their faith in atheism.
  5. Many put their faith in evolution.
  6. Many put their faith in Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism.
  7. WE PUT OUR FAITH IN THE TRUTH OF CHRIST JESUS.
  8. It’s not the “strength” of one’s faith that matters. It’s the “object” of one’s faith that counts.

(4) We have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus.

(5) You have already heard about this hope in the message of truth, the gospel that has come to you. It is bearing fruit and growing all over the world, just as it has among you since the day you heard it and recognized God’s grace in the truth.

  1. LOVE That’s Rooted in Truth

(4-5) for we have heard of… the LOVE you have for all the saints because of the hope reserved for you in heaven.

  1. We are both saved by the blood of Jesus.
  2. We are both possessed by the Holy Spirit.
  3. We are both the children of the living God.
  4. We are both brothers and sisters in Christ.
  5. We are both part of His Body (His Church).
  6. We are both going to be raptured together.
  7. Our houses are probably going to be next to each other.
  8. We are going to spend all eternity together.
