1. God the Son PAYS
A. Jesus pays the price for sin.
(Romans 6:23) The wages of sin is death.
B. We can’t afford to pay that price.
(1 Peter 1:18-19) You know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life… with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish.
(1 Peter 2:24) He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that, having died to sins, we might live for righteousness.
(1 Corinthians 7:23) You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men.
(1 Corinthians 6:20) You were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body.
C. The debt incurred by our sin was a terrible price.
(Matthew 27:45-54) From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over the whole land. At about three in the afternoon Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”… Jesus shouted again with a loud voice and gave up His spirit. Suddenly, the curtain of the sanctuary was split in two from top to bottom; the earth quaked and the rocks were split… When the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they were terrified and said, “This man really was God’s Son!”
2. God the Father FORGIVES
A. Our sin debt “CAN BE” forgiven as soon as it is paid.
(1 John 2:12) I am writing to you little children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of His name.
B. Our sin debt “WILL BE” forgiven as soon as we repent.
(Luke 24:46-47) “This is what is written: the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead the third day, and repentance for forgiveness of sin would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations.”
C. Our sin debt is “TOTALLY” forgiven – past, present, and future.
(1 John 1:9) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness.
D. Our sin debt will be “FORGOTTEN” as soon it’s forgiven.
(Hebrews 8:12) I will be merciful to their wrongdoing, and I will never again remember their sins.
3. God the Spirit OCCUPIES
A. The Holy Spirit moved into us and made us holy.
(Ezekiel 36:27) “I will place My Spirit within you and cause you to follow My statues and carefully observe My ordinances.”
(1 Corinthians 3:16) Don’t you know that you are God’s sanctuary and that the Spirit of God lives in you?
B. The Holy Spirit in us guides us through life.
(Romans 8:14) All those who are led by the Spirit are God’s sons.
C. The Holy Spirit in us guarantees heaven.
(Romans 8:11) If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, then He who raised Christ from the dead will also bring your mortal bodies to life through His Spirit who lives in you.
(2 Corinthians 1:22) He has… sealed us and given us the Spirit as a down payment in our hearts.
