Self Identify: RECIPIENTS

We are recipients of new hearts transformed by a very special salvation.

(1 Peter 1:10-12) Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that would come to you searched and carefully investigated. They inquired into what time or what circumstances the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when He testified in advance to the messianic sufferings and the glories that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you concerning things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Angels desire to look into these things.

1. A Salvation That Was Promised
(10) Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that would come to you searched and carefully investigated.
A. Before Christ, prophesy was “future” telling.
B. The prophets themselves did not understand what they were prophesying.

(Psalm 22:1) “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
(1 Peter 1:10) “searched and carefully investigated”
(1 Peter 1: 11) “inquired into what time or circumstance”
(1 Peter 1:12) “that they were not serving themselves”

2. A Salvation That Was Preached
A. The gospel never made any sense to the prophets who promised it.
(Isaiah 53:5-6) He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities, punishment for our peace was on Him, and we are healed by His wounds. We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished Him for the iniquity of us all.
B. God’s salvation, promised by the prophets of old, is Jesus!
(1 Peter 1:12) It was revealed to them (prophets) that they were not serving themselves but you concerning things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven.

3. A Salvation That Is Personal
(1 Peter 1:12c) Angels desire to look into these things.
