The Ten Categories of a Biblical Worldview Pt. 2

09-25-2024 • Wes Wilkinson

God is the creator of all life, humans are uniquely made in His image, and our brokenness due to sin is only healed through Jesus Christ.

Foundations of a Biblical Worldview: Creation, Psychology, and Society

Introduction:

  • Categories of life: We can break down the major areas of life into 10 categories when building a Christian worldview.
  • Theology: Belief in a Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God reveals Himself through general and specific revelation.
  • The Bible: Inerrant and authoritative. Scripture dictates how believers should think about every issue.

Foundational Worldview:

  1. Theology and Philosophy:
    • God is absolute truth: Objective, unchanging truth based on who God is.
    • Reality: Both physical (seen) and spiritual (unseen) realities exist.
    • Moral absolutes: There are clear distinctions between what is right and wrong based on God’s nature.

Creationism (Biology):

  1. Origin of Life:

    • God created all things seen and unseen.
    • Jesus, the second person of the Trinity, created and sustains life (Colossians 1:15-17).
    • Genesis 1: God created the world in six days, culminating with human beings, created in His image.
  2. Image of God:

    • Humanity is unique in bearing God’s image.
    • Humans were made to rule and steward creation.
    • Human life is valuable because it reflects God’s image from conception to natural death (Genesis 9:6, Psalm 139).
  3. Against Evolution:

    • Theistic evolution undermines the image of God and the Gospel’s core message of redemption.

Psychology:

  1. Dual Nature of Humanity:

    • Mind-Body Dualism: Humans are both physical and spiritual beings (2 Corinthians 4:16).
    • Sin: Humanity is broken by sin, which affects both mind and body (Jeremiah 17:9).
  2. Free Will and Moral Responsibility:

    • Humans possess limited free will and are morally responsible for their choices.
    • Sin distorts our ability to reason correctly and affects decision-making.
  3. Mental Health:

    • There is a place for understanding mental illness, but some issues are spiritual and require biblical truth.
    • The solution to our deepest brokenness is found in Jesus.

Conclusion:

  • The biblical worldview offers truth, goodness, and life. Though sin has broken creation, God’s design is good and life-giving.
  • As believers, we must align our thinking with Scripture, not societal trends or feelings.
