False gods burden, but the true God carries. He has done it, He will carry us, He will bear us, and He will deliver us.

Isaiah 46 – God Carries His People

1. Introduction

  • The focus of tonight’s study is Isaiah 46, part of a larger section (Isaiah 40-55) that speaks to God’s faithfulness.
  • These passages are words for those in the wilderness—either in rebellion or suffering under the weight of exile.

2. False Gods vs. The True God (Isaiah 46:1-2)

  • Isaiah contrasts the idols of the ancient Near East (Bel and Nebo) with the true God.
  • These false gods must be carried on carts, are burdensome, and cannot save their followers.
  • Instead of rescuing, they themselves go into captivity.

3. God’s Faithfulness to Carry His People (Isaiah 46:3-4)

  • Unlike idols, God does not need to be carried—He is the one who carries His people.
  • God has sustained His people from birth and will continue to carry them even into old age.
  • He remains unchanged and is always faithful to bear and deliver His people.

4. The Call to Trust in God

  • The passage urges God’s people to listen and reflect on His faithfulness.
  • Regardless of the trials faced—whether from rebellion or suffering—God is constant.
  • He carries His people through the burdens of life, unlike false gods that only add weight.

5. Encouragement for the Church

  • Life brings seasons of struggle, doubt, and hardship, but God remains steadfast.
  • We may not understand every trial, but we can trust that He will carry us through.
  • Just as God has sustained His people in the past, He will continue to be faithful.

6. Conclusion and Prayer

  • God’s faithfulness extends to both individuals and the church.
  • The same God who birthed and sustained this church for over 50 years will continue to carry it forward.
  • Our hope is in Him, who not only carries us now but will one day bring us to completion in Christ.
