Words for the Weary Pt. 7

04-23-2025 • Wes Wilkinson

Genuine worship flows from a heart that loves and trusts God.

Isaiah 43:18–44:5

God’s New Work

  • God is doing a new, transformative work, not just repeating past deliverances (Isaiah 43:18-19).

  • Streams in the desert symbolize spiritual renewal and life (Isaiah 43:20-21).

  • The new work will include the outpouring of the Spirit on future generations (Isaiah 44:3-4).

Problem of Religious Formalism

  • Israel is weary of God and not seeking Him sincerely (Isaiah 43:22).

  • Their sacrifices are ritualistic and lack true devotion (Isaiah 43:23-24).

  • God desires genuine worship from the heart, not just religious routines.

  • Warning against playing religion without loving God.

God’s Redemptive Promise

  • God will blot out sins for His own sake, showing grace despite Israel’s unfaithfulness (Isaiah 43:25).

  • Forgiveness is based on God’s character, not human merit.

Discipline and Renewal

  • God disciplines His people out of love, calling for submission and repentance (Isaiah 43:27-28).

  • True submission leads to renewal and restored relationship.

  • The Spirit’s outpouring will bring new life and personal commitment to God (Isaiah 44:3-5).

True Worship

  • Worship should flow from love for God, not ritual obligation.

  • Believers are called to love Jesus first and live out their faith authentically.

  • Trust God rather than fearing worldly threats, focusing on His ongoing redemptive work.
