A SAVIOR WAS BORN FOR YOU

Ultimately, the message of Christmas is a message of salvation.

(Luke 2:8-14) In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you in the city of David.”

 

1. MESSIAH

(11) “Today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you…”

A. The Messiah was the one promised by ancient prophets.

  • 1,400 BC – Genesis 12:1-3, The Messiah will be a descendant of Abraham.

· 1,400 BC – Genesis 49:10, The Messiah will come from the Tribe of Judah.

· 900 BC – 2 Samuel 7:12-16, The Messiah will be a descendant of David.

· 750 BC – Micah 5:2, The Messiah will be born in Bethlehem.

· 690 BC – Isaiah 7:14, The Messiah will be born to a virgin.

· 600 BC – Jeremiah 31:15, Mass execution of children by King Herod.

· 750 BC – Hosea 11:1, The Messiah will be brought up from Egypt.

B. All of their prophesies were met in Jesus.

C. Jesus was the Messiah promised by the prophets.

 

2. SAVIOR

(11) “Today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you…”

A. My sin requires a death.

B. Is there anybody else willing to die for my sins?

(Matthew 1:21) “She will give birth to a son, and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”

C. Jesus was able and willing to die for my sins.

 

3. LORD

(11) Today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you.”

A. Lord: The one who is to be honored, followed, and served.

B. How willing am I to accept Jesus as my LORD?
