Rooted in Stability

Everyone who is a Christ follower should be stable.

ROOTED IN STABILITY

Everyone who is a Christ follower should be stable.

(Colossians 4:2-6) Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us that God may open a door to us for the message, to speak the mystery of the Messiah – for which I am in prison – so that I may reveal it as I am required to speak. Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Your speech should always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.

1. Devoted to Prayer

(4:2a) Devote yourselves to prayer.

A. We dwell on it.

(Philippians 4:8) Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable – if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise – dwell on these things.

B. We practice it.
C. We improve at it.

2. Alertness in Thanksgiving

(4:2) Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving.

A. Admits our smallness before God.
B. Declares God’s greatness over man.
C. Acknowledges God’s benevolence toward us.

3. Occasions to Witness

(4:3-4) Pray also for us that God may open a door to us for the message to speak the mystery of the Messiah – for which I am in prison – so that I may reveal it as I am required to speak.

A. All of us are afraid to talk about Jesus.
B. Some have faced and tamed that fear.
C. Talking to people about Jesus changes us.
D. Satan doesn’t want us to experience that change.

4. Encompassed By Wisdom

(4:5-6) Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Your speech should always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.

There has never been a time when we’ve needed God’s wisdom more than we do today.
