COMMISSIONED to Share

Matt Downing

“You are the light of the world.  A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.  Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”                                                                  -Matthew 5:14-16

A commission is an instruction, command, or duty given to a person or group of people.

Our commission:

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”- Matthew 28:19-20

  1. HIS COMMISSION IS FOR ALL BELIEVERS TO GO – even when it’s not convenient.

Common things that STOP us in our call to “GO”

  • Prosperity
  • Busyness
  • Fear
  • Faithlessness

  1. HIS MISSION IS THAT ALL WOULD HEAR- even when it’s not comfortable.

Acts 16:6-15

They went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia and were prevented by the Holy Spirit from speaking the message in Asia. When they came to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them. So, bypassing Mysia, they came down to Troas. During the night a vision appeared to Paul: A Macedonian man was standing and pleading with him, “Cross over to Macedonia and help us!” 10 After he had seen the vision, we[a] immediately made efforts to set out for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to evangelize them.

11 Then, setting sail from Troas, we ran a straight course to Samothrace, the next day to Neapolis, 12 and from there to Philippi, a Roman colony, which is a leading city of that district of Macedonia. We stayed in that city for a number of days. 13 On the Sabbath day we went outside the city gate by the river, where we thought there was a place of prayer. We sat down and spoke to the women gathered there. 14 A woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God, was listening. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was spoken by Paul. 15 After she and her household were baptized, she urged us, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.

  1. HIS MISSION FIELD IS EVERYWHERE- even where we are/aren’t.

THE THREE A’S IN SHARING THE GOSPEL

  • ASK
  • ADMIRE
  • ADMIT

LIFE IN 6 WORDS

God created us to be with Him.

Our sins separate us from Him.

Sins cannot be removed by good deeds.

Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again.

Everyone who trusts in Him alone has eternal life.

Life starts now and lasts forever.
