DEATH! WHAT’S THAT?

The biblical understanding of death should not be hard to explain.

1. Our Bodies Stop
  A. Sin kills our bodies
  B. Everybody has sinned.
(Romans 5:12) Just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all men, because all sinned.
  C. After the introduction of sin:
    • Adam lived 930 years.
    • Enosh lived 905 years.
    • Mahalalel lived 895 years.
    • Lamech lived 777 years.
    • Shem lived 600 years.
    • Shelah lived 433 years.
    • Peleg lived 239 years.
    • Serug lived 230 years.
    • Terah lived 205 years.
    • Abraham lived 175 years.
    • Jacob lived 147 years.
    • Moses lived 120 years.
    • David lived 70 years.

2. Our Souls Continue
(Luke 16:19-24) “There was a rich man who would dress in purple and fine linen feasting lavishly every day. But a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, was left at his gate. He longed to be filled with what fell from the rich man’s table, but instead the dogs would come and lick his sores. One day the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torment in Hades, he looked up and saw Abraham a long way off, with Lazarus at his side. ‘Father Abraham!’ he called out, ‘Have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this flame!’”
  A. Everyone’s bodies stop.
  B. Everyone’s soul continues.
  C. Some souls will be blessed by God, while others will not.

3. Our Eternity Starts
  A. The big question is WHERE?
  B. Somewhere other than HERE!
(Matthew 13:41-43) “The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather from His kingdom everything that causes sin and those guilty of lawlessness. They will throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom.”
(Matthew 25:46) “And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
  C. Those who DO NOT trust and follow Jesus to ETERNAL PUNISHMENT.
  D. Those who DO trust and follow Jesus to ETERNAL LIFE.
