Back to the Basics Pt. 2

We must know the true God and rely on His Spirit to make our lives look more like Jesus.

The One True God

  • There is one living and true God who is personal and spiritual.
  • God created the universe and continues to uphold His creation.
  • He is all-powerful and knows all things, including the future.
  • God is perfectly good and just.
  • He is worthy of our love, worship, and obedience.

One God in Three Persons

  • God is one being who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • Each person of the Trinity is distinct while remaining fully God.
  • The Father, Son, and Spirit are co-equal and co-eternal.
  • The Trinity reminds us that God is beyond our full understanding, yet He chooses to be near and personal.

God the Father and God the Son

  • God the Father rules over creation and carries out His purposes with perfect care.
  • Through Christ, believers are adopted and can relate to God as their perfect Father.
  • Jesus is the eternal Son of God who became fully human while remaining fully God.
  • He lived without sin and died as the perfect substitute for sinners.
  • Jesus rose from the dead and now serves as the mediator between God and man.

God the Holy Spirit

  • The Holy Spirit is fully God and is a person, not an impersonal force.
  • He inspired Scripture and helps believers understand God’s truth.
  • The Spirit convicts people of sin and brings new life at salvation.
  • Every believer receives the Holy Spirit fully at the moment of salvation.
  • He produces Christlike character and empowers believers to obey God.

Knowing the True God

  • Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
  • Works do not save us, but salvation produces a life of obedience.
  • The Christian life depends on the Spirit’s power rather than our own ability.
  • Getting the identity of Jesus right matters because salvation is found in the true Jesus alone.
  • Believers should know the truth well so they are not led astray.
