Passage: 1 Samuel 30

 THINK

Main Point: God is Who He says He is and His people can find strength in Him when they face anxiety and distress.

 APPLY

Personal Application: We must strengthen ourselves in the LORD our God, seeking His guidance and direction, courageously walking in righteousness, no matter the circumstance.
    • We must strengthen ourselves in the LORD our God:
o When anxiety and distress arise, what is your normal pattern of action?
o How do we strengthen ourselves in the LORD?
o Read these passages for examples of how David found strength in the LORD during hard times:
? Psalm 34: David escaping Ahimelech
? Ps. 37: The Pattern of Trust
? Ps. 52: When Doeg tells Saul where David is
? Ps. 56: When Philistines surround David
? Ps. 59: When Saul sends men to kill David
? Ps. 63: When David hid from Saul
o What steps can you take to quiet your heart and mind to find strength in the LORD?

   • We must seek the LORD’s guidance and direction:

o What sources do you normally seek direction from?
o Are you confident God delights to give wisdom?
o Is there any weakness of faith you need to confess?
o Where do you need the LORD’s wisdom today?
   • We must walk in righteousness no matter what the circumstance:
o Is it easy to justify poor or sinful behavior when you are distressed or walking through a hard time?
o Where can you better love God and love others amid your anxiety?
   • We must trust God as He prepares, protects, and provides:
o How might God be preparing, protect, and providing for His will in and through your life?

 PRAY

   • Praise God for who He is: Glorious, Good, and Great!
   • Pray that our trust will grow stronger.
   • Confess any unbelief or weakness of faith.
   • Pray that the Holy Spirit’s unity and fellowship would reign mightily among us.
   • Pray and lay your requests and petitions before the LORD with confidence that He knows, He sees, and He acts.
   • Pray that for each other, that we would live full of the Spirit.
   • Pray that the eyes of our heart and faith would be set above, where Jesus is at the right hand of God.
   • Praise the Lord that He is sovereign, and His rule is secure.
   • Pray that God would open doors for us to proclaim the gospel and that He would add to our number.
