Back to the Basics Pt. 1

We must commit to knowing God's Word so we can faithfully follow Christ.

The Foundation of Sound Doctrine

  • Healthy churches return often to the basic truths of the faith.
  • Knowing what we believe helps us recognize error and disciple others well.
  • The Baptist Faith and Message serves as a summary of biblical doctrine, not a replacement for Scripture.
  • Every belief must ultimately be tested by God’s Word.

The Nature and Purpose of Scripture

  • God used human authors, but the Holy Spirit is the true author of Scripture.
  • The Bible reveals God and points people to salvation through Jesus Christ.
  • Scripture is without error and completely trustworthy.
  • Jesus is the central focus of God’s written revelation.

Why God’s Word Can Be Trusted

  • God’s Word is perfect, enduring, and able to make people wise.
  • Scripture equips believers for every good work and provides God’s standard for truth.
  • The Bible is living and powerful, reaching the deepest parts of the heart.
  • God has faithfully preserved His Word for His people.

Living Under the Authority of Scripture

  • Loving Jesus includes honoring and obeying His Word.
  • Scripture should shape our beliefs instead of our preferences.
  • God’s Word speaks truth in every area it addresses.
  • Believers should read, hear, and meditate on Scripture throughout daily life.

Holding Fast to Truth

  • The enemy continually attacks God’s Word and questions its authority.
  • Christians must know Scripture so they are not easily misled.
  • God’s truth provides stability in a culture marked by confusion.
  • A life rooted in God’s Word is prepared to stand faithfully.
