OUR BOND

True Christ followers have always shared an unusually strong bond.

  1. They Supported Each Other

(4:23) After they were released, they went to their own fellowship and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them.

A. Our biological family can’t always give us the support we need.

(Romans 8:5) Those whose lives are according to the flesh think about the things of the flesh, but those whose lives are according to the Spirit, [think] about the things of the Spirit.

B. Our circle of friends can’t always give us the support we need.

(Proverb 18:24) One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin.

C. Sometimes only our church family can give us the support we need.

  1. They Prayed with Each Other

(4:24) When they heard this, they raised their voices to God unanimously…

A. Two men in need. Everyone came around them in prayer.

B. They based their prayer on Scripture.

(24b) “Master, You are the One who made the heaven, the earth, and the sea, and everything in them. You said through the Holy Spirit, by the mouth of our father David Your servant:”

(25) “‘Why did the Gentiles rage and the peoples plot futile things? The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers assembled together against the Lord and against His Messiah.’”

(27-30) “For, in fact, in this city both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, assembled together against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, to do whatever Your hand and Your plan had predestined to take place. And now, Lord, consider their threats, and grant that Your slaves may speak Your message with complete boldness.”

C. The church’s prayer was a prayer for boldness as witnesses.

  1. They Witnessed Beside Each Other

( 31) When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak God’s message with boldness.

A. They were ALL filled with the Holy Spirit together.

B. They ALL became bold together.

C. They ALL told others about Christ together.
