FAITH… What’s That?

01-06-2019 • Dr. Steve Washburn

Faith in God should not be that hard to explain.

FAITH! WHAT’S THAT?

Faith in God should not be that hard to explain.

1. Pondering and Acknowledging God’s EXISTENCE

    A. You can’t trust someone unless you’re pretty sure they are there.
    B. Helping them grasp the existence of God is a good place to start.

(Romans 1:20) From the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what He has made.
(Psalms 19:1) The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands.
(Psalms 90:2) Before the mountains were born, before You gave birth to the earth and the world, from eternity to eternity, You are God.
(Jeremiah 29:13) You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

    C. If they really want to know if He is there, God will help them know that.

2. Pondering and Acknowledging God’s ABILITY

    A. Confidence that God has ability to DO things.
    B. Confidence that God can DO things REALLY WELL.
    C. God has the ability to accomplish the things we need.

(Ephesians 1:9) What is the immeasurable greatness of His power to us who believe, according to the working of His vast strength.
(Matthew 19:26) “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
(Job 42:1) You can do anything and no plan of Yours can be thwarted.
(Daniel 4:34-35) His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are counted as nothing, and He does what He wants with the army of heaven and the inhabitants of the earth. There is no one who can hold back His hand…”

3. Pondering and Acknowledging God’s LOVE
    A. We are more inclined to trust those who love us.
    B. One thing we should never question is God’s love for us.

(1 John 4:10) Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that He loved us…
(Psalm 118:6-7) The Lord is for me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? With the Lord for me as my helper, I will look in triumph on those who hate me.
(Psalm 86:15) You, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abundant in faithful love…
(Joshua 1:9) “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

4. LET GO!
    A. It’s never a blind leap of faith.
    B. There is really no expression of faith until we – LET GO.
