Good News: Kingdom Come

Good News: Kingdom Come

  1. The King and His Kingdom
  • God is the King and reigns over all of His creation.
  • Jesus brought God’s kingdom to this earth before and He will do it again.

Colossians 1:15-20

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.[i]
16 For everything was created by Him, in heaven and on earth,
the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions
or rulers or authorities—
all things have been created through Him and for Him.
17 He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together.
18 He is also the head of the body, the church;
He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
so that He might come to have first place in everything.
19 For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him,
20 and through Him to reconcile everything to Himself
by making peace through the blood of His cross[
whether things on earth or things in heaven

  • The church is to represent the kingdom until Jesus’ return.
  1. The Kingdom Promise

When the King returns…

  • The will of God will be done throughout the earth just as it is done in heaven.

Zechariah 14:9- On that day Yahweh will become King over all the earth)—Yahweh alone, and His name alone.

  • We will never again have to experience pain, sorrow and the temptations and trials of this life.

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

(Revelation 21:1-4 ESV)

  • We will rule and reign with Him.
  • We will inherit …
  • a crown of righteousness (2 Tim. 4:8)
  • The crown of life ( 1:12; Rev. 2:10)
  • The crown of glory (1 Peter 5:4),
  • access and enjoy the King’s power, possessions, and authority, including even ruling over the angels (1 Cor. 6:3).
  • The earth! As Christ promised, the meek shall inherit the earth ( 5:5), and part of that will involve specific responsibilities according to our faithfulness in this world (Luke 19:17).

“But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever” (Dan. 7:18).

  1. The Kingdom Challenge
  • An evil kingdom has risen up to oppose God’s Kingdom.

He presented another parable to them: “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while people were sleeping, his enemy came, sowed weeds among the wheat, and left. 26 When the plants sprouted and produced grain, then the weeds also appeared. 27 The landowner’s slaves came to him and said, ‘Master, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Then where did the weeds come from?’

28 “‘An enemy did this!’ he told them.

“‘So, do you want us to go and gather them up?’ the slaves asked him.

29 “‘No,’ he said. ‘When you gather up the weeds, you might also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At harvest time I’ll tell the reapers: Gather the weeds first and tie them in bundles to burn them, but store the wheat in my barn.’”

2 Timothy 2:26

Perhaps God will grant them repentance,  leading them to the knowledge of the truth. 26 Then they may come to their senses and escape the Devil’s trap having been captured by him to do his will.

  • We currently have to live in 2 different Kingdoms.
  • We are called to a rescue mission for the Kingdom

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go, therefore, and make disciples) off all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember,  I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

  • The King is working and expects us to also be working until His return.
