God is a friend to those who learn to live uprightly.
Praising and Praying Across America
(Proverb 3:32-35) The devious are detestable to the Lord, but He is a friend to the upright. The Lord’s curse is on the household of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the righteous; He mocks those who mock, but gives grace to the humble. The wise will inherit honor, but He holds up fools to dishonor.
WISDOM
God is a friend to those who learn to live uprightly.
1. God BLESSES Those Who ACT Wisely
(33) The Lord’s curse is on the household of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the righteous.
(Romans 3:10) There is no one righteous, not even one.
A. “Declared” righteousness.
(Romans 5:1 & 9) Since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ… Since we have now been declared righteous by His blood, we will be saved through Him from wrath.
B. “Behaved” righteousness.
(1 John 3:9-10) Everyone who has been born of God does not sin, because His seed remains in him; he is not able to sin, because he has been born of God. This is how God’s children… are made evident. Whoever does not do what is right is not of God.
2. God FAVORS Those Who FEAR Wisely
(34) [God] mocks those who mock, but gives grace to the humble.
A. “Grace” is unmerited favor.
B. “Humble” is to fear God.
C. God gives unmerited favor to those wise enough to fear Him.
(Proverb 9:10) Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
3. God HONORS Those Who THINK Wisely
A. We choose God to be the judge of wisdom.
B. Culture around us will scoff and call us foolish.
(Romans 1:21-22) Though they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became nonsense, and their senseless minds were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools.
(35) The wise will inherit honor.
C. God will honor us for choosing Him.
