What We’re Missing In Easter

04-12-2020 • Dr. Steve Washburn

We are missing some key elements in our Easter.

WHAT WE’RE MISSING IN EASTER

We are missing some key elements in our Easter.

(1 Corinthians 15:1-8) Now brothers, I want to clarify for you the gospel I proclaimed to you; you received it and have taken your stand on it. You are also saved by it, if you hold to the message I proclaimed to you – unless you believed to no purpose. For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve. Then He appeared to over 500 brothers at one time, most of whom remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one abnormally born, He also appeared to me.

1. We’ve Not Felt the Bite of Oppression
A. Oppression in Egypt.
B. Oppression in wilderness
C. Oppression in Assyria
D. Oppression in Babylon
E. Oppression under Persia
F. Oppression under Greece.
G. Oppression under Rome

2. We’ve Not Been Desperate for a Deliverer
A. The word “Christ” is a title, not a name.
B. Jesus is “The Christ,” “The Deliverer”
(Matthew 16:16) “You are THE CHRIST, the Son of the living God.”
(Matthew 26:63) “Tell us if You are THE CHRIST, the Son of God!”
(Luke 4:41) “You are THE CHRIST, the Son of God!” and He rebuking them, did not allow them to speak, for they knew that He was THE CHRIST.
C. They were desperate for a deliverer.
D. In our affluence, we’ve never been desperate.

3. We’ve Not Grasped the Need for The Cross
(1 Corinthians 15:3) For I passed on to you as most important what I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures…
A. Three truths:
a. Sin requires a death
b. God promised a substitute.
c. Jesus died our death.
B. Sin is a soiled-heart condition
C. A soiled-heart spews out sinful behaviors
D. Once the heart is cleansed, the behaviors change

4. We’ve Not Been Impressed with the Resurrection
(15:4) He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
