Are You Ready for Your Comment of Faith?

06-18-2025 • Daniel McGinty

Are you cultivating a heart rooted in Scripture and led by the Spirit that you can, at any moment and with gentleness, give a clear reason for the hope you have in Christ?

Key Passage Reading

“Who then is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? … but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect…” (1 Peter 3:13, 15–16)

Fearless in Righteousness

  • Suffering for doing what’s right brings blessing, not shame
  • Do not fear the world’s intimidation or peer pressure—even as adults, we feel its pull

Exclusive Loyalty to Christ

  • Regard Jesus as holy—set apart above all earthly allegiances
  • Our identity and calling flow from His sacrifice and lordship

Ready with a Reason

  • “Prepared to make a defense” means knowing Scripture and having clear answers
  • Intellectual conviction (“fully convinced”) must be paired with winsome engagement

Gentleness and Respect

  • Attitude matters: people are more open to truth when it’s delivered in love
  • Avoid know-it-all arrogance; live in a way that validates your witness

Illustrations & Object Lessons

  • Genesis 6:14 ? God equips us for unexpected tasks

  • Ephesians 2:20 ? Christ is the chief cornerstone keeping us aligned

  • Genesis 3 ? Disobedience has real consequences—Adam and Eve’s choice still speaks

  • Romans 12:2 ? Our minds must be renewed, not conformed to the world

  • Judges 8:22–23 ? Israel’s demand for an earthly king warns against misplaced loyalty

  • Psalm 139 ? We are fearfully and wonderfully made, shape and all

Personal & Corporate Application

  • Watch for “divine pop-up” moments in everyday routine—Panera conversations, workplace encounters, family interactions

  • As parents and mentors, seize teachable moments to point others back to God’s Word

  • Commit daily to Scripture reading and Holy Spirit dependence so that when the moment comes, you speak truth without hesitation

  • Cultivate a reputation for kindness and respect so people actually want to listen
