05-15-2024 • Wes Wilkinson

To fully embrace and live out a biblical worldview, we must submit every aspect of our lives to the authority and truth of Scripture.

Introduction

  • Importance of growing into a biblical worldview.
  • Definition of worldview: A framework through which we see and interpret all of life.
  • Distinction between a worldview and religion: A comprehensive worldview interprets all aspects of life.

Biblical Worldview

  • A biblical worldview is rooted in Scripture, as God intends it to be understood.
  • Revelation of God:
    • God is personal and reveals Himself to His creation.
    • Examples include interactions with Adam, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and ultimately through Jesus.
    • Jesus is the perfect revelation of God.

Authority of Scripture

  • The Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to us.
  • Key attributes of the Bible:
    • Authoritative: What God says is right and final.
    • Inerrant: Without error in the original manuscripts.
    • Sufficient: Provides all we need to know, love, and follow God.
    • Powerful and understandable: Living and active.

Jesus’ View on Scripture

  • Jesus treated Scripture as authoritative and final.
  • Examples from the Gospels:
    • Jesus quotes Scripture as the present and eternal truth of God.
    • Jesus’ use of Scripture in responding to temptation.

Internal and External Evidence for the Bible’s Authority

  • Internal evidence: Biblical claims of authority (e.g., 2 Timothy 3:16, John 17).
  • External evidence: Archaeological discoveries and non-Christian historical records that support biblical accounts.

Common Objections to Biblical Authority

  • Objection: The Bible was written by humans.
    • Response: Humans can accurately record truth.
  • Objection: The Bible has been corrupted over time.
    • Response: Extensive manuscript evidence supports the accuracy of Scripture.

Application: Living Under the Authority of Scripture

  • Every part of a believer’s life must fall under the authority of Scripture.
  • Importance of understanding and interpreting the Bible correctly.
  • The Bible’s authority impacts how we live, think, and relate to God.

Conclusion

  • To trust in God and His Word is essential.
  • Submission to Scripture brings joy and aligns us with God’s truth.
