God's general and specific revelations through Scripture provide the framework for understanding and interpreting life.

What is a Worldview?

  • A worldview is informed by a metanarrative (an overarching story).

  • Secular humanist worldview
  • Marxist worldview
  • New Age worldview (including Buddhism, Hinduism, Eastern mysticism)
  • Post-modernism
  • Islam
  • Moral therapeutic deism (deism, therapeutic aspect, moral aspect)

  • Two types of revelation: General and Specific.

General Revelation

  • Romans 1:18-23: God’s invisible attributes are evident in creation.
  • God’s attributes revealed in creation: Transcendence, Immanence, Self-sufficiency, Eternity, Power, Intelligence, Artistic nature.
  • Knowledge of God within humans, despite suppression by unrighteousness.

  • General revelation is enough to recognize the existence of God but not sufficient to understand salvation.

Specific Revelation

  • The fullness of God’s revelation is Jesus Christ (Hebrews 1).
  • Jesus Christ as the ultimate revelation.
  • The written Word (Bible) as a specific revelation for those who do not see Jesus physically.

The Nature and Authority of the Bible

  • Promises and blessings of following Scripture (Psalm 119).
  • The Bible provides direction, wisdom, freedom, and truth.
  • A Christian’s relationship with the Bible: not just a rule book or love letter, but God’s revelation.

Challenges of Modern Christianity

  • Lack of biblical literacy and worldview among Christians.
  • Importance of seeking truth and understanding Scripture rationally.
  • The necessity of a biblical worldview in understanding and addressing contemporary issues.
