Identity Pt. 14.5 – God’s Transforming Love

09-04-2024 • Wes Wilkinson

We are called to grow deeper in understanding God’s love, allowing it to transform our hearts and guide us to love Him and others more fully in every aspect of our lives.

Introduction & Purpose

  • The core message: understanding God’s grace and how faith remains central to our relationship with Him.

Walking by Grace Through Faith

  • We relate to God through grace and faith, not just at the start of our Christian walk but throughout our lives.
  • Faith involves trusting in what we cannot see but know to be true—God’s character as revealed in His Word.

The Nature of Faith (Hebrews 11:1, 6)

  • Faith is the conviction of things unseen and trusting in God’s promises.
  • Without faith, it is impossible to please God; we must believe He exists and rewards those who seek Him.

Living by Faith in Who God Is

  • Walking by faith means trusting in who God reveals Himself to be, not who we imagine Him to be.
  • God’s character is most clearly revealed in Scripture and through the Holy Spirit, who points us to Jesus.

Comprehending the Depth of God’s Love (Ephesians 3:19)

  • Paul’s prayer for us to know the breadth, length, height, and depth of Christ’s love.
  • God’s love is the foundation of our spiritual maturity, and growing in this love is essential for walking in faith.

Understanding God’s Love in Action (John 3:16 & 1 John 4:7-10)

  • God’s love is not just an emotion; it is a verb, shown through action. He gave His Son as a sacrifice for us.
  • True love is demonstrated by God sending Jesus to be the atonement for our sins.

Responding to God’s Love

  • If God loves us in this way, we are called to love one another in the same sacrificial manner.
  • Walking in God’s love enables us to love others, even in the face of fear, doubt, or condemnation.

The Transforming Power of God’s Love (Romans 5 & 8)

  • The Holy Spirit applies God’s love in our hearts, transforming us to be more like Christ.
  • Nothing can separate us from the love of God—not tribulation, distress, or even our worst days.

Application: Growing in God’s Love

  • We need to continually seek a deeper understanding of God’s love.
  • God’s love compels us toward maturity and enables us to love Him and others more fully.
