Uncertainty Pt. 2

04-29-2026 • Chris Gary

Take one clear step of obedience this week even if you do not understand the outcome.

Living with Uncertainty and the Nature of Faith

  • People naturally want clarity, plans, and control over what comes next.
  • Uncertainty creates tension because the future is unknown.
  • Faith often requires moving forward without full information.
  • God usually provides just enough light for the next step, not the full path.

Dependence on God, Not Self

  • The image of sheep and shepherd shows that people are designed to depend on God.
  • Self-sufficiency is not the goal, even though it is often pursued.
  • Trusting God means staying close to Him rather than relying on personal strength.
  • Uncertainty is not a sign that God is absent but a place where trust grows.

Faith in Action Without Full Clarity

  • God often calls people before revealing the full plan.
  • Abraham obeyed and went without knowing where he was going.
  • Paul moved forward even while expecting hardship ahead.
  • Faith is following direction, even when details are missing.

Listening and Responding with Obedience

  • God’s guidance is more like direction than detailed instructions.
  • Taking the first step is necessary before further direction is given.
  • Listening requires slowing down and removing distractions.
  • Obedience takes courage, especially when the outcome is unclear.

Guardrails for Wise and Faithful Decisions

  • God’s voice brings clarity and peace rather than confusion.
  • Every step must align with Scripture, which remains the standard.
  • Motives should be examined to ensure faithfulness instead of self-interest.
  • God’s leading will not harm others or damage a believer’s witness.
  • Faith responds to God’s invitation with trust instead of needing certainty.
