Worldview Rumble: The Crescent & Cross Pt. 1

05-06-2026

We must hold firmly to the true gospel while treating others with grace and truth.

A Changing World and Competing Worldviews

  • Global travel and instant access to information have brought different worldviews into constant contact.
  • Christianity and Islam now interact in ways that were less common in past generations.
  • Public voices often create confusion by blurring major theological differences.
  • The goal is not fear or hostility but clear biblical understanding.
  • Christians are called to recognize false ideas while responding with truth and grace.

Basic Background and Beliefs of Islam

  • Islam means submission to Allah and the teachings of Muhammad.
  • Muhammad claimed to receive revelations from the angel Gabriel over many years.
  • The Quran is viewed as the final and complete revelation from Allah.
  • Islam spread rapidly through military conquest after Muhammad’s death.
  • Sunni and Shiite Muslims differ mainly over leadership succession after Muhammad.

Major Differences Between Islam and Christianity

  • Islam teaches that Allah is one person rather than a triune God.
  • The doctrine of the Trinity is viewed in Islam as blasphemy.
  • Muslims honor Jesus as a prophet but reject Him as God in the flesh.
  • Islam denies the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.
  • Christianity proclaims Jesus’ death and resurrection as central to salvation.

Different Views of Humanity and Salvation

  • Islam teaches that people are born Muslim and must remain in submission to Allah.
  • Humanity is viewed as servants of Allah rather than sons and daughters of God.
  • Final judgment in Islam is tied to a person’s deeds and obedience.
  • Christianity teaches salvation by grace through faith rather than human merit.
  • Eternal hope rests fully on the work of Christ, not personal righteousness.

Responding with Truth and Faithfulness

  • Not every Muslim is hostile or dangerous, and many are kind and hospitable people.
  • Christians should avoid political extremes and emotional reactions.
  • Biblical truth must not be watered down in the name of unity.
  • The church must remain clear about the identity of Jesus and the gospel.
  • Believers are called to engage others with conviction, patience, and love.
