Background & Context: Acts 5:1-16

Sermon Passage: Acts 5:17-42

 THINK

As Jesus continues to work out His mission and ministry by the Holy Spirit through the local church, He calls us to obey Him alone rather than man

 APPLY

We must obey God rather than Man.

  • Such obedience is birthed in dependent and confident prayer:
    • How active is your daily prayer life?
    • What is a step you can make to pray more faithfully?
    • When you pray, how confident are you that God hears?
    • How can you better pray God’s will as revealed in Scripture?
  • Such obedience is identified with Christ in daily life:
    • Where do you fight for the rights over your life?
    • Where is God calling you to die to self for His glory?
  • Such obedience is faithful to the mission and ministry of Jesus in daily life:
    • Who has God placed before you to be faithful ministering to?
    • Where are you feeling the pressure to compromise obedience to God for the mission and ministry of Jesus because of man’s pressure?
  • Such obedience is surrendered to suffering when necessary:
    • How are you daily counting the cost to follow Jesus?
    • How have your normally responded when faced with hardship for the name of Jesus?
  • Such obedience is active in rejoicing with great joy:
    • How can you actively take captive your thoughts to the goodness, greatness, and glory of Jesus Christ?
    • Do you believe joy should be an actively part of your Christian life?

 PRAY

  • Pray and praise God for who He is: the Sovereign Master of all Creation and Time.
  • Pray for God to take note of our present situation and act on our behalf for His glory.
  • Pray for God to fill each of us with the Holy Spirit that we would be bold in declaring the Gospel.
  • Pray for doors to open before us to proclaim the hope of Jesus to our families, friends, neighbors, and more.
  • Pray that we would walk in the unity and fellowship of the Holy Spirit – seeking to glorify Jesus and do what He says, how He says, wherever and whenever He leads.
