Worldview Rumble: The Crescent & Cross Pt. 5

06-03-2026 • Wes Wilkinson

We must stand firmly for biblical truth while treating others with grace and love.

Law, Ethics, and the Purpose of Government

  • Laws are meant to help create an ordered and just society.
  • Ethics asks what is right and wrong, while law applies those ideas publicly.
  • A biblical worldview connects morality and law because both flow from God’s character.
  • Governments should protect people, restrain evil, and preserve justice.
  • Human laws work best when they recognize God-given rights rather than inventing new ones.

Biblical Law Compared to Sharia Law

  • Sharia law is built from the Quran, the Hadith, and later Islamic legal traditions.
  • Islam focuses on submission to Allah’s revealed laws rather than knowing God personally.
  • Sharia law governs nearly every part of life, including family, economics, and criminal justice.
  • Some forms of Sharia law prescribe severe punishments for blasphemy, adultery, and apostasy.
  • Christianity and Islam approach law, justice, and human rights from very different foundations.

Government, Human Nature, and Power

  • Christianity teaches that humans are fallen and prone to corruption.
  • Systems with checks and balances exist because power can be abused.
  • Islamic government has often centered around concentrated authority with fewer restraints on power.
  • A biblical understanding of sin shaped many Western ideas about limited government.
  • Liberty depends not only on laws but also on the hearts of the people.

Truth, Citizenship, and Cultural Responsibility

  • Christians are called to be faithful citizens and care about the good of society.
  • Believers should pay attention to cultural and political movements without losing focus on the gospel.
  • The church should not withdraw completely from public life.
  • Laws and policies influence whether a society protects truth, freedom, and human dignity.
  • Christians should engage these issues with clarity, humility, and conviction.

Standing Firm with Grace and Truth

  • The biblical worldview and the Islamic worldview do not ultimately align.
  • Christians are still called to love their neighbors and share the gospel faithfully.
  • Followers of Jesus advance truth through witness and sacrifice, not coercion or violence.
  • The church must remain committed to truth even in a pluralistic culture.
  • Faithfulness requires courage, wisdom, and dependence on God.
