Our Father is in total control of EVERYTHING
(2 Chronicles 20:6) “Lord God of our ancestors, are You not the God who is in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand, and no one can stand against You.”
1. Our Father’s SOVEREIGNTY
A. Sovereign describes a king in relationship to those over whom he reigns.
(20:6) “Lord God of our ancestors, are You not the God who is in Heaven, and do You not rule over ALL THE KINGDOMS OF THE NATIONS?”
B. God has absolute sovereignty over everything.
C. God exercises sovereignty over all other kingdoms.
(1 Timothy 6:15) Blessed and only SOVEREIGN, the King of kings and Lord of lords.
(Psalms 24:7-10) Lift up your heads, you gates! Rise up, ancient doors! Then the King of glory will come in. Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, you gates! Rise up, ancient doors! Then the King of glory will come in. Who is He, this King of glory? The Lord of Hosts, He is the King of glory.
(Joshua 24:14-16) “Fear the Lord and worship Him in sincerity and truth. Get rid of the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and worship the Lord. But if it doesn’t please you to worship the Lord, choose for yourselves today the one you will worship: the gods your fathers worshiped beyond the Euphrates River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my family, we will worship the Lord. The people replied, “We will certainly not abandon the Lord to worship other gods!… (18) We too will worship the Lord, because He is our God.”
2. Our Father’s AUTHORITY
A. Sovereignty reigns, but authority RULES.
B. Our Father has authority over all those who DO follow Him.
• Life “inside” God’s authority is a tremendous thing.
• Life “outside” God’s authority is a terrifying thing.
C. Our Father has authority over all those who DON’T follow Him.
(Romans 2:5) Because of your hardness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment is revealed.
D. Our Father has authority over all things in this broken world.
3. Our Father’s ABILITY
A. Sovereignty reigns. Authority rules. Ability ENFORCES.
B. Our Father has the ability to enforce His authority.
(6c) Power and might are in Your hand, and no one can stand against You.
C. Our Father has the ability to express His affection.
(Isaiah 40:10) See, the Lord God comes with strength, and His power establishes His rule. His reward is with Him, and His gifts accompany Him.
